William Shields

William “Bill” Shields, age 83 of Niles, Michigan died on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Silverbrook Manor, following an extended illness. He was born May 8, 1931 in Saginaw, Michigan to Harold W. and Evelyn (Morgan) Shields.
Bill was a veteran of the United States Air Force, retiring after 30 years of service. He played piano for a Big Band musical group and had a great sense of humor. He worked as a security guard then as a greeter at Walmart.
On May 5, 1968 in Fairbanks, Alaska, Bill married the former Mary Ladd. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary, before she preceded him in death on January 4, 2014.
Surviving family includes one brother, Mitchell “Gary” (& Marie) Shields of Saginaw and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; two brothers, Jim Shields and Harold Shields and one sister, Pat Hammis.
The family will gather quietly for services.
Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, Michigan.
