William C. Gaut, 69 of Niles, passed away in his home on Sunday, August 5, 2018.
Bill was born in Nappanee, IN on May 9, 1949 to the late Charles and Dorothy (Holcomb) Gaut.
On December 17, 1971 in Niles, he married Anita H. Liggett, who survives.
Bill is survived by his wife of 46 years, Anita. He is also survived by his daughters, Brenna (Chris) Harden of Plymouth, MI, Deanna (Tim) Gazda of Spanish Fort, AL, and Alicia (Randy Brown) of South Bend, his grandchildren; Alexis, Mallory, Andrew, Madelyn and Samantha and his sister Debbie Lawson of Texas.
Bill honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His dedication to our country was evident as he was awarded three Purple Hearts for the injuries he suffered.
Bill worked at several manufacturing plants in the area, retiring from Honeywell. He loved collecting Baseball and Football cards. Bill was a member of Bend of the River Conservation Club and VFW Post 9820. He also enjoyed playing Santa for various organizations around the area for the past 9 years.
Visitation for Bill will be on Wednesday, August 8 from 5-8pm at Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home 615 E. Main St. in Niles. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 10:00 am in the funeral home.
Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery where military honors will be given in recognition of his service to our country.
Memorials in Bill’s name may be made to Pet Refuge or St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Center.
