Vito Rondinelli, age 66, died at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Silverbrook Manor, Niles following a brief illness.
He was born on August 24, 1948 in Curinga, Cantanzaro Province, Italy to Domenico and Barbara (Frucci) Rondinelli. A 1967 graduate of Niles High School, Vito excelled in wrestling in the 103 pound weight class. His senior year he was the Big 6 Conference champ, regional champ and finished 4th in the State at 103lbs.
Vito enjoyed his Italian heritage and for 35 years made his own wine. His home displayed his love for working in the yard and flowers. Also, he enjoyed watching both college and professional football. He was a member of the Niles Elks Lodge #1322. After 25 years of work at Simplicity Pattern, he enjoyed ten years working on Knollwood Country Clubs golf course.
Surviving family include his sister, Maria Thibodeau of Mishawaka, Indiana. A close life-long friend Terry Toney helped him, especially in his last illness.
A memorial service to remember Vito Rondinelli will take place December 6 from 1 4 p.m. at the Niles Elks Lodge #1322. Memorials may be made to Niles High School Scholarship and Sports Program; 1441 Eagle Street; Niles, MI 49120.
