Virginia Ruth “Jennie” Smith, age 73 years of Baroda, Michigan died on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Hanson Hospice Center, Stevensville. She was born February 21, 1941 in Sioux City, Iowa to Evert B. and Clara May (Knox) Spaulding.

Jennie was a nursing aid and attended the First Church of The Nazarene in Saint Joseph, Michigan. She enjoyed creating all kinds of crafts and visiting the River Valley Senior Center in Sawyer, Michigan.

On February 1, 1969 in Benton Harbor, Michigan, Jennie married Charles Vincent Smith, who preceded her in death on February 29, 1996. Jennie was also preceded in death by her daughter, Star Dawn Lomoro; four sisters and one brother.

Surviving family includes three sons, Robert Smith of Benton Harbor, Derwin Smith of Berrien Springs, Michigan and Aaron (& Debbie) Smith of Bridgman, Michigan; 12 grandchildren; David Smith of Watervliet, Michigan, Michael Lomoro of Berrien Springs, Amber Smith of Hartford, Michigan, Linda Dotson of Baroda, Tiffany Rochefort of Bridgman, Jacob Scott of Crawfordsville, Florida, Chance Smith of Hartford, Rachel Smith of Berrien Springs, Nathan Smith, Kevin Smith, and Lydia Smith, all of Bridgman and many great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Virginia Ruth “Jennie” Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with Rev. J. Dean Pickett of the First Church of The Nazarene, Saint Joseph, officiating. Interment will follow at the Bertrand Cemetery, Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.

Donations in memory of Jennie may be made to the River Valley Senior Center, Sawyer, Michigan.
