Verla-Jean Yeager, age 58 years of Edwardsburg, Michigan and formerly of Niles, Michigan died at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Kindred Transitional Care in South Bend, Indiana following a brief illness.
She was born on September 23, 1954 in South Bend to Larry Walter and Jean Joan (Lindsley) Bybee, Sr. She was graduated from Niles High School, and lived in Niles most of her life before moving to Edwardsburg in 2000.
Verla-Jean was a volunteer at the Niles Haunted House. She had a special interest in the Children’s Camp Scholarship program at Hope United Methodist Church in Edwardsburg. She enjoyed camping with her family, and home crafts including cooking, baking and sewing.
On October 16, 1971 in South Bend she married Robert Lee Yeager with whom she celebrated last year the forty-first anniversary of their wedding.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Yeager, Sr., and by their children, Kimberly (& Chad) Burger of Niles, Alicia Spicer, and Chad Yeager of Niles; a daughter-in-law, Misti (Mrs. Robert) Yeager of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren, Carlee Burger, Abigail Yeager, Hunter Spicer, Cameron Yeager, Conrad Burger, Paige Swearinger, and Logan Swearinger; and by Verla’s brother, Larry Bybee, Jr. of Mishawaka, Indiana and sister, Mellody (& Michael) Buzalski of Edwardsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert L. Yeager, Jr. who died on March 21, 2010, and an infant daughter, Terrah Dyan Yeager on August 26, 1978.
Services for Verla-Jean Yeager will be at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Hope United Methodist Church in Edwardsburg with the Rev. Jeff Reese of the church officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Contributions in memory of Verla-Jean may be made to the Hope United Methodist Church Camp Scholarship Fund.
Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
