Terry Lynn Pettie, 70, of Niles, died peacefully Thursday, January 2, 2025 in the comfort of his family’s presence.
His life began February 23, 1954 in Niles, Michigan, one of eight children born to Otis and Isabell Pettie. He married Doree Anne Burnett July 6, 1985 in Dowagiac, Michigan.
Terry cherished his grandchildren. He loved to ride his motorcycle, especially when he was able to ride with his boys. He could take a destroyed car and make it brand new. He had a wicked sense of humor and enjoyed playing pranks on his wife. But he was very stubborn. He enjoyed listening to music, mostly rock. He took quite a few pictures and would spend time going through them often. He was a quiet person but moved to the beat of his own drum. He always told Doree that he wasn’t made for speed, he was made for comfort.
Terry will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Doree Pettie of Niles; two sons, Carl (Leta) Pettie of Edwardsburg, Travis (Brandi) Pettie of Niles; six grandchildren, Travis Jr., Maelynn, Lyddia, Aiden, Kaleb, Maddison; two sisters, Barbara Pettie of Niles, Carol Benjamin of Niles; one brother, Kenny Pettie of Kentucky; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Thomas Pettie, Otis Pettie Jr., Joe Pettie, and J.K. Pettie
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Terry’s life Friday, January 10, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Buchanan Area Senior Center, 810 Rynearson Street, Buchanan, Michigan 49107.
