Stephen C. Biek

July 22, 1946 — November 21, 2023

Niles, Michigan

Stephen Charles Biek, age 77 years of Niles, Michigan; brother, uncle, neighbor, roofer, and fisherman died peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at his home, unexpectedly, but of natural causes.

He was born on July 22, 2946 in Niles to Ray C. and Marie (Leary) Biek.  Sadly, his mother died during his birth, and he was raised by his father, accompanied four years later by a step-mother, Marjory (Evans) Biek.  Steve was graduated from Saint Joseph Catholic High School in South Bend, Indiana, and continued his education at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.  He soon joined the family business, Biek Roofing, and later established his own business, Steve Biek Construction.

Steve was a lifelong member of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Niles.  He enjoyed fishing in area waterways including Dowagiac’s Mill Pond, and boating on Lake Michigan.  He also enjoyed sitting around a campfire, sometimes up-north near Petosky.

On April 23, 1999 in Niles he married the former Laurette L. Depyl who preceded him in death on May 9, 2008 – just days after the Ninth anniversary of their wedding.  In addition to his wife and mother, he was also preceded in death by his father, Ray Biek on June 2, 1999, his step-mother, Marjory Biek on September 3, 2001, and by his brothers, Robert Biek on July 19, 1999, William Biek on October 1, 2019, and infant Joseph Biek.

Surviving family includes his brothers, Mike (& Lorene) Biek of Niles, and Tom Biek of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews, and a wonderful circle of great friends.

The family of Steve Biek will gather privately to share memories and honor his life.  Committal will be in Calvary Cemetery, Niles.  Arrangements were completed at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles.  Online memories may be left at:

Steve’s vocation provided for  many folks a dry roof over their heads and shelter, and did so well enough to provide safe and warm shelter for his family, while earning respect and friendships.  He even did well enough creating “indoors” to have the time and money to enjoy the “outdoors” . . . a very successful life.
