Specialist Cody James Sisk, United States Army, age 22 years of Niles, Michigan and currently stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky died on Saturday, July 25, 2015 in Niles, unexpectedly.
He was born on July 13, 1993 at Hill Air Force Base near Ogden, Utah, but has lived most of his life in Niles, and graduated from Niles High School in 2011. During high school, he often volunteered in the Performing Arts Center on the Stage Crew. He had also been active in Boy Scouts of America, Troop 541 at the First United Methodist Church in Buchanan, and had earned the ultimate rank of Eagle Scout.
Cody was first employed as an apprentice with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers labor union local 153 in South Bend, Indiana. He then enlisted in the United States Army as a Military Intelligence specialist. He had served a tour of duty in Kuwait, was preparing for training in Germany, and had completed the first steps in the Armys pilot training program. He enjoyed movies, especially comedy and action.
Surviving family includes his father, Kevin Sisk of Niles and mother, Shelly (& Gary) Tropp of Niles; sister, Samantha J. Sisk of Niles and William A. Sisk of Houghton, Michigan; step-brothers, Andy Tropp and Ryan Tropp; grandparents Jeff and Barbara Sisk of Niles and Robert Tropp; uncles Mark Sisk, Don Silcox, and Doug Silcox, aunts Tammy Bowman, Jeannie Finnegan, and Denice Yates; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Melvin and Marsha Silcox, and an uncle, Mark Silcox.
The funeral service for Spc. Cody J. Sisk will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2015 at the meeting house of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Niles with Bishop Lynn Allen Ferris of the church officiating. Committal will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles and will conclude with Full Military Honors by the United States Army Honor Guard and American Legion Post #51 of Buchanan. The motorcade from the funeral to the committal will be escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles, and on Friday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Contributions in memory of Cody may be made to Boy Scout Troop #541 in Buchanan.
