Sirenna Marie Konkey, age 43 years of Niles, Michigan died peacefully at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 with her family gathered around at the Center for Hospice Care – Esther’s House in Elkhart, Indiana following a brief illness.
She was born on October 1, 1980 in Muncie, Indiana to Bradley Williams and Elizabeth Konkey, and attended Saint Mary’s Elementary School in Niles, and Niles High School. She worked for short periods in some of Niles’ retail stores, but her true life’s work was caring for her children and providing a home for them.
Sirenna was a member of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Niles. She was well-known for her flower gardens around the house, and she enjoyed traveling on day trips around Michigan and Indiana, often to visit relatives and friends. She loved music of all styles, and had music playing in the background wherever she was and whatever she was doing.
She was sadly preceded in death by a grandson, Kingston Xavier James Barkmann on November 15, 2017; and by her parents.
Surviving family includes her children, Austyn Barkmann (& Elizabeth Coleman) of Elkhart, Indiana, Raven Barkmann (& Chandler Durham) of Dowagiac, Michigan, Hannah Barkmann of Niles, and Wyatt Wirick, Waylan Wirick, and Rhett Wirick, all of Prospect, Tennessee; grandchildren Amarianna and Jameson; Sirenna’s grandparents, Dave and Fern Konkey of Niles; and Sirenna’s siblings, Levi (& Tiffany) Williams and Jamie Williams, both of Hartford, Indiana.
The family of Sirenna Konkey will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles, with recitation of The Rosary at 3:00 p.m., led by the Rev. Christian Johnston of Saint Mary’s Parish. Committal will be private, at a later date, in Calvary Cemetery in Niles. Online condolences may be left at:
Sirenna’s life feels altogether too brief, but she used her years well, enjoying flowers – which are also only briefly beautiful - and music, and most importantly, loving her family.
