Shirley May Bruecks, age 67 years of Niles, Michigan died on Wednesday, December 10, 2013 at her home, unexpectedly but of natural causes.
She was born on November 3, 1946 in Watervliet, Michigan to Percy H. and Elizabeth O. (Stelter) Wigent. She was graduated from Watervliet High School, and has lived in Niles since 1966. She was employed at Simplicity Pattern Company for thirty-five years, until the plant was closed.
Shirley was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #2094 in Niles, and was a past Madam President of the Eagles District. She was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #978/Women of the Moose Chapter 413 in Niles, and the American Legion Post #26 Auxiliary in Niles and American Legion Post #365 in Edwardsburg, Michigan. She enjoyed the fellowship of those organizations, especially the events at the Niles Eagles which focused on NASCAR races. She also enjoyed crochet and animals, always having a pet at home.
On June 3, 1966 she married Nicholas Bruecks who preceded her in death on December 23, 1984.
She is survived by her sisters, Gloria Anderson of Saint Joseph, Michigan and Theo Wigent of Phoenix, Arizona; and brother, Claude Wigent of Sedona, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews of several generations.
Services for Shirley May Bruecks will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Randy Pearman of Bethel Baptist Church in Niles officiating. Committal will be at a later date at Mission Hills.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Contributions in memory of Shirley may be made to an organization of the donor’s choice.
