Sara Yudis

February 26, 1932 — February 26, 2022

Sara T. Yudis of Niles, Michigan, wife, mother, gardener, and homemaker died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, February 26, 2022 at Spectrum Health Lakeland Hospital – Niles on the ninetieth anniversary of her birth.  Her family is grateful for the efforts of the ambulance crew and the emergency department staff.

Sara was born on February 26, 1932 in LaGrange, Georgia to Andrew Warren and Willie Maud (Milam) Crouch.  She was a devoted homemaker, housewife, and mother most of her life, and had lived in Niles since 1965.

Sara enjoyed gardening, raising a variety of species of flowers, and growing tomatoes.  Those tomatoes were enjoyed fresh and cut-up, in salads, and on sandwiches.  Her greatest joy was providing a home for her husband and sons.

She was married more than sixty years ago in Chicago to Robert Adolf Yudis who had recently been discharged from the United State Air Force.  Their marriage was blessed with sons Mark Damon Yudis and Stephen Robert Yudis who shared their home north of Niles High School.  The boys were both great fans of NASCAR, and Stephen was a member of the Bend of the River Conservation Club.

Sadly Mark died altogether too young, at 40 years old on April 1, 2000.  Stephen also died at 40 years old, eight years later on January 21, 2008.  And then – just 6 months ago – her husband, Robert died, on August 18, 2021.

Surviving family includes Robert’s sister, Virginia D. “Jean” Nelson-Little of Huachuca City, Arizona; Jean’s son, James Laino and his daughter, Miah; and close family friend, Carol Harman of South Bend, Indiana who visited Sara often and had become a caregiver to Sara.

Graveside services for Sara Yudis will be private, at a later date, at Silverbrook Cemetery, next-to the graves of her husband and sons.  Arrangements were completed at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles.  Online condolences may be left at:

Sara devoted her life to those whom she loved, her sons and her husband; and when they were gone, her mission in this life was complete, and she has gone to join them.
