Sara Kinnaman

July 12, 1918 — November 14, 2019

Sara Ellen Kinnaman, wife, mother, grandmother, church and community supporter, and golfer died peacefully at home on Thursday, November 14, 2019 with her family gathered around her bedside, having attained the remarkable age of one hundred and one years old.  Sara’s life touched many in the Niles community and beyond.

She was born on July 12, 1918 in Crawfordsville, Indiana to Floyd and Mary Catherine (Davidson) Reeves.  She was graduated from New Market (Indiana) High School, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Indiana University in 1940.  She came to Niles in 1946 and was employed by the Niles Community Schools as a teacher at Ferry Street School and Westside Elementary School.

Sara was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Niles where she served as an Elder and Sunday School Teacher, served on the Foundation board, and was a member of the What-So-Ever class.  She was also a member of the Niles Service League and the Ladies Reading Club.  She volunteered at Ballard School, Fernwood Botanical Gardens, Meals on Wheels, and the Lakeland Auxiliary Pawating where she served as treasurer.

In her spare time she was an avid bridge player, golfer, reader, and frequent attender of the girls’ basketball games at Niles High School and the University of Notre Dame.

On June 22, 1946 in New Market, Indiana she married Allen J. Kinnaman with whom she celebrated the fifty-sixth anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on March 2, 2003.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Mary, and by her step-father, K. G. Stickler; by a brother, David A. Reeves, a half-brother, H. D. Stickler, and step-brothers John, Victor, Earl, Leroy, and Edward Stickler.

Surviving family includes her son, Allen Jon (Victoria) Kinnaman of Tuftonboro, New Hampshire; grandchildren Noah (Allison) Glick, Henry (Dana) Glick, Ephriam (Aiyana) Glick, and Chandra Glick; and many nieces and nephews.

Her family is grateful for the kind and compassionate services of Caring Circle Hospice and her devoted team of caregivers.

The memorial service for Sara Kinnaman will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, 13 North Fourth Street in Niles with the Rev. Dr. Ronald H. Wakeman formerly of Niles officiating.  Committal in the Columbarium of First Presbyterian Church will be private at a later date.
