Roberta Moersch

Roberta A. Moersch, age 81 years of Niles, Michigan died on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Medilodge of Montrose, Michigan following an illness.
She was born on July 14, 1933 in Genesee County, Michigan to Allan and Mae (Lynch) Mitchell, and was raised there. She was first employed at the Flint office of Weight Watchers International. She was later employed in the administrative offices of seniors’ residences in Columbus, Ohio and Greenfield, Indiana. She has lived in Niles since 1998, coming from Buchanan, Michigan.
“Bobbie” was a member of the Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church. Her devotion to healthy living lead her to become a master gardener. She was also an accomplished knitter, making hats, gloves, and scarves for her family, and making prayer shawls. She loved animals – especially the poodles she raised – and liked to share her compassion for animals with others. She will be mostly remembered for her sense of humor, and will be greatly missed.
She was first married to Richard A. Velat. Later, on December 7, 1972 in Flint she married Richard E. “Dick” Moersch who preceded her in death on April 2, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents and by a son, Randal Velat who died on April 1, 1973.
Surviving family include the children, Sharyn (& Walter) Roberts, Richard (& Sherrie) Moersch, Debra (& Dave) Fritz, Rebecca Gwinn, Richard (& Cathy) Velat, Ruth (& Rob) Culhane, Russell (& Pam) Velat; a special friend, Kathy Herbel; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; close friends, LeAnna and Ray Herbel and family, Sue Rose, and Chris Pená; her church family at Niles Westside SDA; and many other loving family members and friends.
The memorial service for Roberta Moersch will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Darrel le Roux officiating, assisted by Pastor William Dudgeon.
Contributions in memory of Bobbie may be made to the Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
