Robert L. Landgraf, M.D., age 95 years of Niles, Michigan died at 7:44 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Riveridge Manor of Niles following a brief illness. His family is grateful to the staffs of Riveridge Manor and Woodland Terrace for their comforting, compassionate care.
He was born on March 14, 1917 in Mendota, Illinois to John and May (John) Landgraf. He was graduated from Seneca (Illinois) High School, attended the University of Iowa, earned his doctorate from Northwestern University, and completed his Pediatric Specialty at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He came to Niles in 1948, and served the community as a pediatrician.
Dr. Landgraf was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles. He was active in community service, holding elected and appointed offices, and volunteering for various organizations. He was a member of the Berrien County Medical Society, and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army.
On February 21, 1944 in Evanston, Illinois he married the former Mary C. Kenny with whom he had celebrated the sixty-third anniversary of their wedding before she preceded him in death on December 7, 2007. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, John and William.
Surviving family includes their children, Carolyn “Lynn” (& Casper) Grathwohl, Robert (& Mary) Landgraf, Jr., John (& Anita “Chickie”) Landgraf, M.D., and William (& Ann) Landgraf, all of Niles; eleven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Dr. Robert Landgraf will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Saint Mary Catholic Church by The Rev. David Otto of the parish. Committal Rites will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles, with recitation of The Rosary at 7:45 p.m.
