Richard Popelka

Richard E. Popelka, age 62 years of Three Oaks, Michigan died at 1:46 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, unexpectedly.

He was born on March 23, 1953 in Berwyn, Illinois to Anthony Martin and Frances Marie (Matkovik) Popelka and was graduated from Community High School District 94 in West Chicago, Illinois. He was employed as a waiter for most of his life, and had served on the waitstaff of some of downtown Chicago’s finest restaurants. He came to Three Oaks in 2012 where he worked for a brief time at the Featherbone Restaurant, but was currently employed at Harding’s Friendly Market in Three Oaks.

Rick enjoyed life, and especially spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by two sisters, Gayle Popelka of West Palm Beach, Florida and Kathleen Payton of Huntley, Illinois; a brother, Anthony M. Popelka, Jr. of Somonauk, Illinois; several nieces; and a circle of great friends.

The family and friends of Rick Popelka will gather to celebrate his life and share memories at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Watkins Memorial Park in Three Oaks. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
