Philip H. Bozung, age 65 years of Niles, Michigan died at 10:09 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at his home, unexpectedly but of natural causes.

He was born on October 13, 1949 in Lakeview, Michigan to Richard and Matilda (Herzog) Bozung. He was graduated from Lakeview High School, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Michigan State University, East Lansing. His career began in the early years of computers, and he served as a systems analyst for many years at the offices of Gerber in Fremont, Michigan.

In 1991 he came to Niles, and was employed in the offices of the Steel Warehouse Company of South Bend. More recently, he has been employed at Advance Auto Parts retail stores in Niles and Granger.

Phil was a member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Niles. He served as an elected member of the Board of Education of Brandywine Community Schools, where he also served many of the athletic department’s teams as the official time-keeper, and helped develop a portable track & field timing system which now serves competitions throughout the area. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, usually at the family farm at Lakeview, and especially when he could share those activities with his children and grandson.

On June 24, 1972 – exactly forty-three years ago – in East Detroit, Michigan he married the former Janice E. Ream, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Thomas R. (& Tracy) Bozung of Oakwood, Ohio and Leigh Ann Bozung of San Diego, California; grandson, Nathan H. Bozung; Phil’s sister, Susan (& Kent) Kizer of Lakeview; Janice’s sisters, Nancy (& John) Main of Clinton Township, Michigan and Carole (& E.B.) Holschuh of Arlington, Texas; and their parents, Arthur & Betty Ream of Clinton Township; and several nieces and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Matilda Bozung.

The funeral service for Philip Bozung will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Niles with the Rev. Carl W. Bassett officiating, assisted by the Rev. Joseph T. Liss, both of Saint Paul’s. The committal service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2015 at the graveside in Cato Cemetery near Lakeview with the Rev. Liss officiating.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the church, and on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the church. Contributions in memory of Philip Bozung may be made to Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, or to Brandywine Community Schools.
