Peggy A. Petersen, 87 of Sister Lakes, passed away in Spectrum Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph.

Peggy was born on September 26, 1934 in Niles to the late John and Linda (Fatter) Upson.

On May 26, 1979 in Berrien Springs, she married Neil F. Petersen, Sr. who passed away in 1987. She is also preceded by her daughters, Peggy Sue Benjamin and Paula Coffinger and by a grandson, Bill Flarida.

Peggy is survived by her brother William (Bud) Upson and daughters, Debby (Kenneth) Wolf of Niles and Treasa Wetzel of Niles, grandchildren; Nicolas Carter of Dowagiac, Nathan (Shelby) Welch of Dowagiac, Linda Benjamin, Michael Benjamin, Joan Renbarger, James Wolf, Rick Daniels, Amy Flarida and Danny (Jenny) Parton, great grandchildren; Kendra Carter, Braden Benjamin, Rebekka Benjamin, Chloe Apton, Kaden Sue Morris, Carl Morris, Madisyn Renbarger, Maiya Renbarger, Triston Wolf, Jayden Wolf, Colin Daniels, Nathan Flarida, Jordan Flarida, Devon Flarida, Brianna Flarida, William Smith, Sammy Smith, Robert Smith and Douglas Goss great great grandchildren Payton Wolf, Sailor Wolf, Lilly Smith and Oakley Benjamin.

Peggy loved books. She would go on her scooter, to the library several times a week to get a stack of books. Peggy loved going to the banks of the St. Joseph River and read.  Her favorites were True Crime and Murder Mystery books. Peggy read the South Bend Tribune and Niles Daily Star every day. She also loved doing puzzles. Peggy loved her cats and dogs.  She enjoyed swinging on her porch swing and watching the birds, squirrels and any other animal that happened to pass by.

Peggy loved her family more than anything. She cherished the times when she could be with them and tell them stories of what life was like when she was younger. She often told them stories of growing up on a farm and the chores she had to do.  Peggy would make big dinners for her family.  Her life truly revolved around them.

Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 2:00pm at Michiana Christian Embassy with Rev. Jeffrey Whittaker 1922 E. Main St. Niles.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Halbritter Wickens Funeral Services, 615 E. Main St. Niles.
