Peggy Leak

Peggy M. Leak, age 67 years of Niles, Michigan died at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, December 13, 2013 at her home following a brief illness.

She was born on May 21, 1946 in South Bend, Indiana to Robert and Blanche (Seniff) Berkheiser. She was graduated from South Bend Riley High School, and has lived in Niles since 1967. She was employed at the White Glove and Great Lakes housekeeping services.

Peggy was a member of the Hilltop Lutheran Church of the Ascension in South Bend, and attended Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Niles. She enjoyed handcrafts including needlepoint and cross stitch, and attending bazaars and garage sales. She had a special interest in the Precious Moments figurine collection. She also enjoyed flowers in her garden and in her house.

On February 11, 1967 at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in South Bend she married James L. Leak with whom she celebrated the forty-sixth anniversary of their wedding. She is survived by her husband, Jim Leak and by their daughters, Jammie L. (& Brian Hutchings) Leak of South Bend, Jennifer M Leak of Niles, and Jill A. Leak of Niles; grandchildren Ashley Leak and Kyle Hutchings; and by Peggy’s sisters, Louise Berkheiser of South Bend and Dorothy Wilkinson of Mishawaka, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her son, James S. “Jimmy” Leak who died on March 17, 2010.

The funeral service for Peggy M. Leak will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. David Russell of Hilltop Lutheran Church officiating, assisted by the Rev. Frederick Pfotenhauer. Committal rites will follow at Mission Hills.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 2:00 until 4:00 and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Peggy may be made to DBSA (Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance).
