Orval Flannery, Jr. age 75 years of Niles, Michigan died at 11:27 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at his home following an extended illness.
He was born on July 16, 1937 in Niles to Orval “Mike” and Florentine Elizabeth (Phillips) Flannery, Sr. He was graduated from Niles High School, and lived here all of his life. He served in the United States Army during peacetime. He was a machinist in area tool & die shops, most recently for several years at the former Hess plant in Niles.
Orval enjoyed fishing on area lakes and on Lake Michigan, but his greatest devotion was to his family.
He was first married to Sharon Willets. Later, on May 27, 1994 in Las Vegas, Nevada he married the former Anne E. Bausor, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Diane Flannery and Michael (& Robin) Flannery, both of Niles; grandchildren Michael Flannery, Jr., Bruce Fergison, Jr., Matt Flannery, Susan Flannery and Dokota Flannery; great-grandchildren Brianna Flannery and Xander McClain; Orval’s sister-in-law, Karen (Mrs. Ronald) Flannery of Niles and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Duane Flannery, and Orval’s brothers, Kenny, Tom, and Ronald Flannery.
Services for Orval Flannery will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Randy Pearman of Bethel Baptist Church in Niles officiating. Committal services will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, and will conclude a flag presentation and “Taps” by the United States Army Honor Guard.
