Nila Lowrance

January 16, 1937 — March 5, 2022

Nila Mae Lowrance, 85, of Buchanan passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022, with her son, Dennis by her side, in Spectrum Health Lakeland in St. Joseph, MI.

Nila was born on January 16, 1937 in Buchanan to the late Ralph and Elizabeth (West) Young.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jessie J. Lowrance, her son, Tim Lowrance and her siblings, Maxine Proctor, Bill Young, Lester Young, Lyle Young, Lorraine Young, Rex Young, Jean Young and Ralph Young, Jr.

Nila is survived by her son, Dennis (Brandy) Lowrance of Buchanan, grandchildren; Kayla Ranay Lowrance and Dakota James Thomas Lowrance and great grandson, Christopher Hendryx, her beloved niece, Elaine Vandenburgh and sister-in-law, Leota Young.

Nila had worked and retired from Simplicity Pattern as a Pattern Folder. She enjoyed quilting and giving away the quilts after she made them.  Nila also enjoyed playing cards, doing word puzzles and jigsaw puzzles with her grandchildren. She was a fan of the Gameshow Network and often watched Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right. Nila also regularly played Bingo and would give the prizes she won to her great grandson. She was an amazing cook who would always make enough food to feed the neighborhood. Nila would often watch the Food Network and enjoyed watching the Pioneer Woman.  Nila also didn’t mind going out to eat. She was always there for her grandchildren’s school events and sports.  The kids knew that Grandma would be there and have a plate of her famous cookies to share. Nila was never one to turn down the chance to go to a flea market.

In keeping with Nila’s wishes, cremation has taken place. She will have a Celebration of Life at  a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St. Niles, MI.
