Monty Hillyer, Sr

Monty Ray Hillyer, Sr., age 51, of Niles died on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Hospice House in South Bend following a brief illness. He was born April 6, 1961 in Niles, Michigan to Gerald “Red” & Beverly (Singleton) Hillyer.

Monty was a United States Army Veteran. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and helping those around him. He enjoyed taking car rides and also being outside.

He is survived by his fiancée Sue Kane-Welling of South Bend, a son; Monty Ray Hillyer, Jr. of California and a daughter; Nashaunda Hillyer of South Bend, 2 step-children; Jeremey (Kim) Welling and Krystal Welling, both of Niles, parents Gerald “Red” & Beverly Hillyer of Niles, 8 grandchildren; Adriana Young, Jonty Ray Hillyer, Haylea Welling, Raven Biggs, Jacob Welling, twins Skylynn and Leo Welling and Gwen “Gwenny-bean” Rosenhagen. Also surviving is a sister; Deb (Don) Carpenter of Niles and nieces and nephews; Donny, McKenzie, Shadd, Zach and Bobbi Jo.

He was preceded in death by his brother; Gary Hillyer.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a time of remembering and sharing from 5-7:00p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles and will conclude with the Veteran’s Flag Presentation and “Taps” by the United States Army Honor Guard at 6:30p.m.
