Michael Reynolds, 72 of South Bend, passed away after an extended illness on Tuesday, July 13, 2021.
Mike was born on June 14, 1949 in Connersville, IN to the late Garrett and Edith (Grove) Reynolds.
On August 16, 1969 in Harris Prairie Church, he married Susan Tharp who survives.
Those left to cherish Mike’s memory are his wife of 51 years, Sue. He is also survived by his son Todd Reynolds of Gun Lake, MI, his sister, Rebecca (Paul) Andrysiak of South Bend, sister-in-law, Sally Flanders, niece and nephews, Kevin (Renee) Andrysiak, Cory Andrysiak, Julie (Scott) Calentine and Rob Flanders.
Mike grew up on Eagle Lake in Edwardsburg. After graduating with the Class of 1967, he went on to honorably serve in the U.S. Army. Following his time in the Army, Mike went to Chicago where he graduated from the Moler Barber College. Mike was a Barber in Elkhart on Bauer St., then was a Barber in River Park in South Bend. When Mike retired, he was working for the PHM School District.
Mike enjoyed golfing with Sue, Todd, and The Boys. He also enjoyed fishing and Notre Dame football. Mike cherished the time he was able to be with family. He was a man who enjoyed a good meal. Those who knew Mike, knew that he never met a dog he didn’t like or a sand trap that he did. Mike loved going to Todd’s high school hockey games and was generally well behaved except for a couple of instances where he loudly questioned the eyesight of a ref.
Recently, Mike was talking to Sue about what a great cook Todd is. He quietly admitted that if he had to rate, he would place Todd’s potato salad above Sue’s. He suffered no repercussions from that admission. Mike will be forever missed.
Visitation for Mike will be on Sunday, July 18 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home 615 E. Main St. Niles. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 19, 2021 at 2:00pm in the funeral home. Burial will follow with full military honors at Edwardsburg Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Priebe, Gina, and Dr. Bilal Ansari for their years of care.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for memorials in Mike’s name be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/.
