Mary Patterson

Mary Patterson, age 85 of Niles died on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, Michigan following an extended illness. She was born July 24, 1927 Belton, South Carolina to Calvin and Hattie (Norris) Lockhart. Her first marriage was to Walter Donald Sr in 1945, he preceded her in death. She then married James W. Patterson in 1953, he also preceded her in death.

Mary moved to Chicago in 1952 and accepted Christ and was baptized into the Baptist faith at an early age. Her faith in God remained steadfast throughout her life. Her career was in healthcare as a CNA and an assembler at Chicago Expansion and Bolt Co, where she retired but continued her CNA work as a home health aide which continued after her retirement.

Surviving family includes sons, Walter Donald II, William Patterson (wife Helena Patterson), and David Patterson; grandchildren, Walter Donald III, Christina Donald (her daughter Amanda McIntyre and son Amauri Phillips), Stephanie Murray (her daughter Jasmine), Heath Martin (his daughters Heather, Michaela, and Cylvia), Ayasheia Scaife, Dominique Patterson, David Jr, and Devin Patterson. Great grandkids: Amanda, Amauri, Dante, and Mahliya. Mary was also grandmother and caretaker for Michelle Donald, and two foster children Cory Patterson and Veronica Brooks as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mary Patterson will be held at 7:00p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the Halbritter Funeral Home. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
