Mary Jean Moore, age 89 years of Niles, Michigan died at 1:47 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Brentwood Assisted Living in Niles following a brief illness.
She was born on December 7, 1925 in Marysville, Kansas to Luther G. and Anna M. (Martinson) Howard. She was graduated from Salina (Kansas) High School, and moved from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Niles in 1962. She was employed for many years at the former Majereks store in Niles.
Mary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Niles, and a long-time member of its choir. She was also a very active member of the Niles Racquet Club and the racquet club on Estero Island, Florida where she spent many winters. As an accomplished vocalist, she toured with the USO, and sang with The Andrews Sisters and noted actor, comedian, and singer Eddie Bracken.
On August 4, 1946 in Salina she married A. Lynn Moore with whom she celebrated the remarkable Sixty-fifth anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on December 30, 2011. They were also preceded in death by a grandson, Michael D. Moore on January 4, 2010, and by Marys four sisters and one brother.
Surviving family includes a son, Larry (& Marcia Rat) Moore of Niles; grandchildren Chris (& Jessica) Moore, Sean (& Christine) Moore, and Dane Deyo; great-grandchildren Isabella, Madeline, Taylor, Emma, and Tanner; and many nieces and nephews.
The family of Mary Moore will be gathering in Marysville, Kansas to honor her life and share memories. Contributions in memory of Mary be made to Hospice at Home.
