Marshall Claude “Pug” Thompson, age 77 years of Niles, Michigan died at 7:35 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at West Woods of Niles following an extended illness.
He was born on October 1, 1938 in Allegan, Michigan to Claude Marshall and Lila Maxine (Bush) Thompson. He was graduated from Niles High School, and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University (East Lansing). He lived in Niles most of his life, and was a long-time employee of the former Hunziker’s Nursery in Niles.
Pug was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and turtling on the Saint Joseph River, and watching sporting events both in-person at the stadium and at home on television.
He was married on February 10, 1958 at the Cass County, Michigan courthouse to the former Karen Lee Pawlak with whom he celebrated the forty-sixth anniversary of their wedding prior to her death on June, 6, 2004.
Surviving family includes their daughters, Lucinda (& Barry) Yakim and Kimberly Dawn Peyton, both of Niles; grandchildren Brian (& Lauren) Mattox, Fred (& Jamie) Peyton, Dawn Peyton, and Christopher Scott Peyton; great-grandchildren Sage, Paige, Steven, Connor, Hunter, and Kinsley; and Karen’s sister, Mary Lappan of Niles.
