Mark Montgomery

Mark L. Montgomery, age 62 years of Niles, Michigan died peacefully at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Riveridge Manor in Niles following an extended illness.

He was born on December 15, 1956 in Niles to Clifford and Margaret (Mead) Montgomery.  He lived in Coldwater, Michigan for twenty years before returning to Niles, and was a student of the Blossomland Learning Center.

Mark always enjoyed music, seemed to most appreciate the classical and inspirational styles, but patiently listened to anything including modern styles such as rap.  He was also a fan of NASCAR, watching the races on television from beginning to end, and banana splits, especially from Dairy Queen.  He always welcomed visitors, followed them through the halls, and when he felt inadequate attention he had a trademark shoulder-bump.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret & Cliff Montgomery; grandparents, the Rev. Wilder and Clara Montgomery, and Charlie and Thelma Mead; and several aunts and uncles.

Surviving family includes his sister, Pam Montgomery and brother, Kerry (& Cathy) Montgomery; nieces Megan (& Bryan) and Kate (& Alex); great-nephew Al and great-niece Reagan; numerous cousins; and a wonderfully close community of compassionate and dedicated caregivers.

The funeral service for Mark Montgomery will be at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles with the Rev. Robert L. Snodgrass II of Grace United Methodist Church in Niles officiating.  Committal will be private on Wednesday at Mission Hills.
