Biography

Marjorie L. Warner, age 88 years of Niles, Michigan died at 9:05 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles following a brief illness.

She was born on January 10, 1925 in Buchanan, Michigan to Carroll A. and Theresa (Schuler) Cross and lived in this area all of her life. She was graduated from Niles High School and remained active in her class reunion activities. She was employed for many years in the executive offices of the National-Standard Corporation, retiring in 1980.

Marjorie was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles. She had earned her private pilot’s license, sharing piloting duties with her husband on his airplane. She and her husband also restored and sailed a 41’ ocean-going ketch (a sailboat with two masts). She enjoyed riding her horses, maintaining and mowing her yard, and the fellowship of a group of friends for coffee at Hardee’s.

On November 12, 1951 in South Bend, Indiana she married Robert E. Warner who died on November 22, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents and by Bob’s mother, Ethel A. Mapes for whom Marjorie had been the primary caregiver.

Surviving family includes her daughter, Rhonda S. (& Carl) Tribble of Niles, Marjorie’s sister, Barbara Price of Bradenton, Florida; several loving nieces and nephews; and her feline companion, Smokie.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Marjorie Warner will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013 at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles by the Rev. David Otto of the parish. Committal Rites will follow at The Graveside at Mission Hills.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Contributions in memory of Marjorie may be made to Berrien County Animal Control to assist with pet adoption.
