Linda Herter

Linda L. Herter, age 61 years of Cassopolis, Michigan died at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 with her family gathered around her bed at her home following an extended illness.

She was born on January 31, 1953 in Goshen, Indiana to Jack and Jeanie (Stover) Grover and has lived in this area all of her life. She was graduated from Ross Beatty High School in Cassopolis, and from Southwestern Michigan College’s Licensed Practical Nurse program. She was formerly Director of Merchandise for the University of Notre Dame Alumni Association, and was currently employed by Cressy & Everett Real Estate as an agent.

Linda was a member of the Cassopolis United Methodist Church.

As a survivor of breast cancer, she developed the concept of providing mammograms for underinsured women, leading to the Secret Sisters Society. She founded Pink Lady Bug Design, LLC for the express purpose of raising funds for projects concerning breast cancer. That company earned the recognition of the Breast Cancer Research Fund. In 2004, Lifetime Television’s 20th Anniversary show, “Women Rock!” honored Linda as a Heroine. She had formerly served on the board of Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Northwest Indiana.

On October 20, 2001 in Granger, Indiana she married James M. Herter, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Andrea (& Todd) Janecek Weckbaugh of Fishers, Indiana, James (& Lindsey) Herter of South Bend, Indiana, Nicklaus (& Maria) Herter of Cassopolis, Angela (& Matthew) Coleman of South Bend, and Shannon Herter of Wilmington, California; six grandchildren; Linda’s parents, Jeanne (& Bob) Wilkerson of Cassopolis, and Jack Grover of Tucson, Arizona; and Linda’s brother, Walter James “Jim” (& Patty) Grover of Cassopolis; and nieces Autumn and Wendy.

Services for Linda Herter will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles, Michigan with The Reverend B. D. Hutchison of Cassopolis United Methodist Church officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Linda may be made to Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, Saint Joseph, Michigan 49085.
