Linda Marie Carter, age 68 years, wife, mother, grandmother, fellow employee, and fan of the ‘60’s died peacefully but unexpectedly at 1:23 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Spectrum Lakeland Hospital in Niles, Michigan. Her family is grateful for the kind and compassionate care provided by the Caring Circle Hospice at Home.
She was born on February 26, 1951 in Niles to Gordon E. and Glenna K. “Micky” (DePoy) Burnett. She began her education at Cassopolis (Michigan) Public Schools, and was graduated from Niles High School. She was employed for many years at the South Bend plant of the Federal-Mogul Corporation (now Tenneco Powertrain) retiring in 2008, and has lived in Niles most of her life.
Linda attended Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles. She traveled with her family in the R.V. throughout much of the United States including Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky, New Orleans, Louisiana, and many trips to the Upper Peninsula. At home she enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, reading James Patterson thriller novels, and watching the birds at the feeding station just outside the front window – a small example of her great love for animals. She maintained a great collection of original (vinyl) recordings of The Beatles, Star Trek memorabilia, and first-generation Ford Mustangs including a 1968, a 1967, and the highly coveted 1964 ½.
On June 23, 1995 in Niles she married William V. Carter with whom she celebrated last year the twenty-fifth anniversary of their wedding.
Surviving family includes her husband, Bill Carter and her children, Tonya (& Darel) Beghtel of La Porte, Indiana and Brett (& Leanna) Hardesty of Niles; grandchildren Bre (& Sean) Kindig, Darel Beghtel II, Gabriel Hardesty, Nathaniel Hardesty, Zachariah Hardesty, and Tabatha Dill; great-grandchildren including Orion and Penelope; and Linda’s brother, John (& Gail) Burnett of Niles, niece Carrie (& Chris Knowles) Harrison and nephew, Christopher (& Teresa) Burnett; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family of Linda Carter will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles.
