Mr. Laszlo Marian Vesei, age 93 years of Niles, Michigan died peacefully at 11:58 a.m. on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at West Woods of Niles following an extended illness.
He was born on March 18, 1925 in Pápa, Hungary to József and Aranka (Okolicsányi) Vesei. He completed primary and secondary school in Hungary, and briefly attended the Budapest University of Technology and Economics before serving in the Hungarian Army. After the war, he emigrated to the United States, completed coursework at Michigan State University, and became a licensed Professional Engineer. He was employed as a mechanical engineer, first at the National Standard Corporation in Niles, then later at Weldun, International in Bridgman, Michigan, and completed his career at Robert Bosch, LLC.
Laszlo was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles. He enjoyed spending time with his family, publishing articles, listening to classical music, and completing crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed a strong aptitude for physics and mathematics, and finding challenges which required such proficiency.
On August 31, 1957 at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana he married the former Erzsébet Varga with whom he celebrated the Fifty-fifth anniversary of their wedding prior to her death on July 15, 2013.
Surviving family includes their children, Brigitta Vesei of Appleton, Wisconsin, Julia (& Gabe) Vesei-Pompe of Shrub Oak, New York, Joseph Vesei of Niles, and Charles (& Erzsébet) Vesei of Strongsville, Ohio; and grandchildren, Serena Pompe, Vince Vesei, Sofia Vesei, Lehel Somogyi, Csaba Somogyi, and Hajnal Somogyi; and one great-grandchild, Ava Somogyi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother, Géza.
The Memorial Mass for Laszlo Vesei will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 203 South Lincoln Avenue, Niles by the Rev. Christian Johnston of the parish, assisted by Deacon Roger Gregorski. Committal Rites will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday at the church, for one hour prior to the Mass. Contributions in memory of Laszlo may be made to Saint Mary Catholic Church, c/o Parish Office, 219 State Street, Niles, MI 49120; or http://www.stmarysniles.org. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home in Niles.
