June L. Gutschenritter, age 91 years of Niles, Michigan died at 1:35 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Riveridge Manor in Niles following a brief illness.
She was born on August 17, 1924 in Buckley, Illinois to Henry K. and Mary K. (Martin) Johnston. She was graduated from Buckley High School, and earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois. She taught Home Economics at the Watseka (Illinois) High School, and at Niles High School. She has lived in Niles since 1948.
June was a member of the Saint Mary Catholic Church, and its Altar Rosary Society. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, and was always ready to help others.
On July 10, 1948 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Loda, Illinois she married Victor M. Gutschenritter with whom she celebrated on Sunday the remarkable Sixty-eighth anniversary of their wedding.
Surviving family includes her husband, Victor M. Gutschenritter and their sons, James L. (& Shirley) Gutschenritter of Warner Robins, Georgia, Edward M. Gutschenritter of Niles, Stephen M. (& Margaret) Gutschenritter of Frankfort, Illinois, and David J. (& Amy) Gutschenritter of Wayland, Massachusetts; grandchildren Elizabeth and Matthew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Ruth Oberto.
The Mass of Christian Burial for June Gutschenritter will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles by the Rev. Christian Johnston of the parish, assisted by Deacon Roger Gregorski. Committal Rites will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with recitation of The Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Contributions in memory of June may be made to the Christian Service Center, 322 Clay Street, Niles, MI 49120.
