June E. Day, age 94 years of Manhattan, Kansas and formerly of Niles, Michigan died on Monday, August 26, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan following a brief illness.
She was born on June 6, 1919 in Niles to Paul and Kathryn (Chiverton) Hendricks. She was graduated from Niles High School, and lived here most of her life on South Third Street. She was employed at the former Robertson’s Department Store in South Bend as a personal shopper. In 2007, she moved to Kansas to be closer to family.
June was a member of Bertrand Bible Church in Niles. She bowled and golfed in area leagues, and continued to golf into her eighties, always walking the course. Her greatest joy was her family to whom she provided unconditional love and unquestioned support through good times and bad. She will be greatly missed.
On Thanksgiving Day of 1939 in Winamac, Indiana she married her high school sweetheart, Gerald L. “Jerry” Day with whom she celebrated the fifty-fifth anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on April 1, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and by a brother, Jack Hendricks.
Surviving family includes their son, Dennis (& Vi) Day of Manhattan; grandchildren Shane (& Christie) Day, Kevin (& Tanya) Day, and Kelly Day; and great-granddaughters, Vivienne and Julie.
The funeral service for June Day will be at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. Committal will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Contributions in memory of June may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice House, 3801 Vanesta Drive, Manhattan, Kansas, 66503.
