June Spindler Blackall, age 86 years of Niles, Michigan died at 2:10 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Silverbrook Manor in Niles following a brief illness.
She was born on June 18, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to Soren Christian and Gudrun Ragnhild (Jespersen) Sorensen. She was graduated from high school in Chicago, and came to Niles in 1956. She was employed for many years at the former Niles store of the J. C. Penney Corporation.
June was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Niles, and volunteered with the Pawating Auxiliary at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles. She served Howard Township as an elected Trustee from 1984 until 1996, and represented Howard Township on other boards and committees. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and internationally, and pursuing her familys heritage in Denmark. She also enjoyed dancing.
On June 8, 1946 in Chicago she married Matthew C. Blackall with whom she celebrated the forty-ninth anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on April 16, 1996. They were also preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey R. Blackall who died on October 3, 1981.
Surviving family includes her children, Matthew (& Donna) Blackall of Palatine, Illinois, Allen Blackall of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Gary (& Mary Ann) Blackall of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Gail Barrows of Cyprus, Texas, and Scott (& Devon) Blackall of Frederick, Maryland; grandchildren Eric (& Lani) Blackall, Aaron Blackall, Matt Blackall, Nathan Barrows, Ryan (& Brittany) Barrows, Jacob Blackall, and Zachary Blackall; great-grandchildren Anjo, Charlie, Natalie, and Kathryn; and Junes sister, Vivian Corbin of Perrysburg, Ohio and brother, Gordon Sorensen of Dallas, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for June Blackall will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2015 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Niles with the Rev. Wayne Shearier of the church officiating. Interment will follow at Mission Hills.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. Contributions in memory of June may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
