Joyce Elaine Rodie, 85, of Niles, passed away in Heritage Point in Mishawaka.
Joyce was born on July 22, 1936 in La Cross, Kansas to the late John and Elma (Kaiser) Rodie.
She is also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters; Ruby Lewinski-Veltman, Elvina Bott, Lloyd Rodie, Marvin Rodie and Junior Rodie
Joyce taught in a one room schoolhouse. She had to get up early and stoke the fire so it would be warm when the children came to school. She received her Master of Education from Andrews University. Joyce had dedicated herself to working with children for over 40 years. She was the former Dean of Girls at Bismark North Dakota Academy of the Seventh Day Adventist. Joyce was also the Teacher Education Supervisor of the Indiana Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist. She also held positions in the Michigan Conference as well. Joyce was dedicated to her teachers and students. She would often lend her sewing skills to make costumes for school plays. Joyce received a Zappara Award from the Indiana Conference for, Excellence in Teaching.
Joyce made friends everywhere she went. She was known as the “Family Prankster”. Joyce loved being with her family and celebrating Holidays with them. She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing and playing the piano.
Joyce is survived by her brother, Larry (Beverly) Rodie of Denver, CO, and sister LeAnna Rodie-Herbel. Because of LeAnna and Joyce's close proximity through the years LeAnna's late husband Ray, and their daughter Kathy and son Brent were very close to her. She also has 15 nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a burial will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been made at Halbritter Wickens Funeral Services 615 E. Main St. in Niles.
Memorials in Joyce’s name may be made to the family through the funeral home.
