Joan L. Vanderboegh, age 83 years of Berrien Center, Michigan died on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana following an extended illness.
She was born on April 6, 1931 in Niles, Michigan to Bradley G. and Jessie Louise (James) Zimmerman. She was graduated from Niles High School, and moved to Berrien Center, Michigan in 2000. She assisted her husband with his business, Michiana Fire & Safety in Berrien Center.
Joan was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2094 in Niles. She enjoyed planting flowers, sewing, and reading about current events.
On August 9, 1971 in South Bend, Indiana she married Larry L. Vanderboegh with whom she celebrated the Forty-third anniversary of their wedding.
Surviving family includes her husband, Larry Vanderboegh and her children Rex Kenton of Niles, Larry Koontz and Steve Koontz, both of Phoenix, Arizona, Greg Koontz of Wausaukee, Wisconsin, and Sarah Kenton of Bitely, Michigan; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Joan was preceded in death by her father, Bradley Zimmerman and mother, J. Louise Monahon; a daughter, Sherriene Kenton, who died in 1984, and Joans brother Franklin Zimmerman.
The funeral service for Joan Vanderboegh will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with Pastor Brad Neese of Berrien Center Bible Church officiating. Committal will follow at Mission Hills.
Contributions in memory of Joan may be made to the Congenital Heart Center at C. S. Mott Childrens Hospital, University of Michigan Health System.
