Jo Ann “Jodi” Cummins, age 81 years of Niles, Michigan died on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at West Woods of Niles following an illness. Her family is grateful for the compassionate and caring staff of West Woods.
She was born on October 24, 1934 in Brookfield, Missouri to Dan Taylor and Dorothy L. (Brown) Taylor Pierce. She was graduated from Niles High School, and had lived here most of her life. She retired from the offices of the Regional Education Service Agency – RESA – and was proud of the contribution that she made to the school system.
Jodi was a kind and thoughtful person. She was well-known in her Copp Road subdivision for having her yard decorated in lights with colors for every season and holiday of the year, “she lit-up the neighborhood.” She enjoyed reading, cooking and canning, gardening, flowers, arts and crafts, and decorating the interior of her home. But her greatest joy was her family, for whom she was devoted to the life roles of wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.
On October 31, 1953 in Niles she married Lloyd H. “Lum” Cummins with whom she celebrated the thirty-fourth anniversary of their wedding prior to his death. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty VanTuyl and brother, Raymond Taylor.
Surviving family includes her children, Roxanne Cummins of Berrien Center, Michigan, Gail (& Royce) Cummins-Lumpkin of Harrisburg, North Carolina, and Sherrie Cummins of Cassopolis, Michigan; grandchildren Mark Layman, Joel (& Heidi) Layman, and Caitlyn Cummins; great-grandchildren Austin, Dylan, Jessica, Matthew, Andrew, and Allison; and Jodi’s brother, Robert (& Jean) Taylor of Niles; many nieces and nephews, and a great circle of wonderful friends.
No service is planned at this time; per her wishes cremation has taken place and the family has met privately.
Contributions in memory of Jodi may be made to the Niles District Library, 620 East Main Street, Niles, MI 49120; or to an organization of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
“Forever, we will cherish her memory, and will miss her deeply”.
