Jeanette L. “Jan” Korman, age 80 years of Niles, Michigan died at 6:50 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Indiana following an extended illness.
She was born on July 19, 1933 in Bremen, Indiana to Richard Emmanuel and Louise R. (Miller) Keyser and was graduated from Bremen High School. In 1969 she moved from Mishawaka to Niles and was employed at the former Tony’s Supermarket on Lake Street for fifteen years. She was then employed at Save Mart, and then at the Goodwill Store in downtown Niles and the new store on Silverbrook Avenue.
Jan was a member of the First Church of Christ – Christian in Niles. She enjoyed corresponding with family and friends by both the postal service and by telephone. She also enjoyed caring for her family, especially the grandchildren, playing Yahtzee, and celebrating the holidays.
Surviving family includes her children, Debbi Biek of South Bend, Indiana, Karen Raehtz (& Matt Fairless) of Troy, Michigan, and Michael (& Denise) Grise of Cassopolis, Michigan; grandchildren Michael (& Sarah) Grise, Levi Grise, Adele Sayles, Adam Biek, Matthew Fairless, and Zachary Fairless; great-grandchildren Jed Grise and Allie Sayles; and Jan’s brothers, Warren Keyser of Seymour, Indiana, Wayne Keyser of Union, Michigan, and Jack Keyser of Culver, Indiana; sisters Loretta Shrock of Carrollton, Texas, Doris “Dorie” Keyser of New Paris, Indiana, and adopted sister, Kim Schultz of New Paris; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Jeanette Korman will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2013 at the First Church of Christ – Christian with Pastor David Szymczak of the church officiating assisted by the Rev. Edward H. Slate of Faith United Methodist Church in Buchanan, Michigan. Committal will follow at the graveside at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, Indiana.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00 until 4:00 and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. Contributions in memory of Jeanette may be made to the First Church of Christ – Christian, or to the Scleroderma Foundation.
