Jeanette Hines

December 31, 1923 — May 4, 2015

Biography Jeanette Elanore Hines, age 91 years of Niles, Michigan and formerly of Berrien Springs, Michigan died at 6:35 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2015 at Woodland Terrace of Longmeadow in Niles following an extended illness.

She was born on December 31, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to Eugene and Claira (Marquardt) Nehls. She was graduated from Hirsch High School in Chicago and lived many years in Berrien Springs before moving to Niles in 1996.

Jeanette was a member of the Berrien Center Bible Church, and participated in many of the congregation’s activities. She enjoyed gardening – especially flowers – and quilting. She also enjoyed entertaining at home and cooking, including her traditional sweet rolls.

On September 28, 1946 in Chicago she married Raymond Hines, Jr. with whom she celebrated the remarkable Fifty-ninth anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on December 16, 2005. She was also preceded in death by daughters Patricia McClain in 2009 and Jeanne Hanson in 2013; and a brother, Alfred “Bud” Nehls.

Surviving family includes her children, Janice (& James) Lotito of Chandler, Arizona, Becky (& William, DDS) Burks of Baldwin City, Kansas, and Ray (& Karen) Hines III, of Frankfort, Illinois; sons-in-law Mark McClain of Geneva, Illinois and Wayne Hanson of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family of Jeanette Hines is gathering privately at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan for burial. Contributions in memory of Jeanette may be made to the Berrien Center Bible Church.
