James Young

James A. Young, 81, formally of Niles passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Edgewood Health
and Rehab in Three Rivers, MI.
James was born on July 11, 1941 in Niles to the late Ted A. and Ardis L. (Schockley) Young.
He graduated from Niles High School, Class of 1959. While in High School, he excelled at Football and
Baseball. After graduation, James enlisted in the Marines, where he was a member of the Marine’s
baseball team.
After his enlistment, he worked at several area businesses including, Simplicity Pattern, National
Standard until 1995 then American Axel. James was a member of the Pipefitter’s Union. He was a
NASCAR fan whose favorite driver was Mark Martin. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.
Surviving James are his wife Susan of White Pigeon, his children; Robert A. (Rachel) Young of Kansas City,
Debi DeMeulenaere of Niles, grandchildren; Jason (Brandi) Carnes and Jessica Carnes, great
grandchildren; Eli and Owen, Kole and Baby C (on the way). He is also survived by his brother, Dale (Lena)
Young of Niles and nephews, Mark (Rebecca) Young of Niles and Kevin Young of Niles.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St. Niles,
MI 49120.
