Jamar Carter

Jamar Michael Carter, age 23 years of Niles, Michigan died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

He was born on September 9, 1994 in Saint Joseph, Michigan, and became the son of Earl J. and Ruscella (Gay) Carter.  He attended Niles High School, and has lived in this area all of his life.  He was employed on the production lines of several area automotive component manufacturing firms.

Jamar attended Summit Church in Niles.  As a young man, he participated in organized baseball and wrestling, but as he grew into his full height, he enjoyed pick-up basketball games.  He enjoyed repairing cars, with a natural talent to so successfully.  He also enjoyed fishing on the Saint Joseph River, but his greatest joy came from his family.

Surviving family includes his siblings, Cynthia, Sabrina, and Matthew Carter, all of Niles, Cassandra Carter of Niles, Allesha Carter and James Carter, both of South Bend, Indiana, Earleen Carter, Earl Carter, Jr., Danny (& Marquette) Washington and Tina Carter, all of South Bend, Evon Carter of Indianapolis, Indiana, Gail Schraw, Gaynelle Byride, Michael Schraw, and Donald Schraw, all of South Bend, and Krystal (& David) Sweeny of Jackson, Michigan; many nieces and nephews including Za’raan, Quran, Ja’raan, Delease, and Bruce; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Rusty Carter.

Services for Jamar Carter will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Summit Church, 1700 West River Road, Niles with the Rev. Daniel Miller of the church officiating.  The family will receive relatives and friends at the church beginning one hour prior to the service.  Arrangements were made at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home in Niles.
