Herman Exner

Herman John Exner, age 79 years of Niles, Michigan died on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, Indiana following a brief illness. He was born October 19, 1934 in Niles to Herman F. and Dora (Kale) Exner.

Herman was a 1953 graduate of Niles High School. He worked at the Niles A & P Store from 1953 to 1959 as the produce manager before becoming a career Niles City Fire Fighter. Herman retired from the fire department in 1989 after 30 years of service. Herman loved his family and spend much time following his children’s and then grandchildren’s sporting, band and schooling events. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether her was working in his yard or camping while traveling.

On June 26, 1955, in Niles, Herman married the former Bonnie Susan. She survives with their children, Gregory (& Janis) Exner of Niles and Susan (& Kevin) Call of Elkhart, Indiana; grandchildren, Ashlee (& Chris) Trensey, Adam Simons, Brian Exner and great-grandson Jensen. Herman is also survived by a sister, Jeanette Albin of Mesa, Arizona.

Funeral services for Herman John Exner will be held at 7:30p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with Kevin Runyan officiating and will conclude with a Firefighter’s Ceremony by the Niles City Fire Department.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home from 6:00p.m. until time of services.

Donation in memory of Herman may be made to either the Niles City Fire Department or Niles Township Fire Department.
