Haskel Taylor Inman, age 95 years of Niles, Michigan died at 1:42 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Indiana following a brief illness.
He was born on June 2, 1922 in Russell, Arkansas to Robert Taylor and Mary Jane (Clark) Inman. He was graduated from Russell High School in 1941, and from Arkansas Tech University Engineering School. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps from which he was Honorably Discharged as a Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Bricklayers’ Chapter #18, South Bend; and worked on several public projects including the Dowagiac (Michigan) High School, several South Bend school buildings, and industrial projects in Mishawaka for Ball Band and Dodge. He retired in 1985.
“Hack” was a faithful listener on WNIL to the Sunday services at First Presbyterian Church. He began his participation in Freemasonry in Arkansas, and was a member of the Saint Joseph Valley Lodge #4, F. & A.M. in Niles and the Knights Templar, Niles Commandery #12. He enjoyed fishing and hunting; and following retirement he and Vivian traveled across the United States in a motorhome, often accompanied by Vivian’s sister, Erma and her husband, Julian McCarver, and spending winters in Texas.
On April 15, 1945 in Bradford, Arkansas he married the former Vivian Mozell Black with whom he celebrated the remarkable Seventieth Anniversary of their wedding prior to her death on December 17, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Willy, Lessie, Opal, Edgar, Ruth, Vera, Rosco, and two year old Whitt.
Surviving family includes his children, Michael L. (& April) Inman, and Pamela S. (& Edward) Wurz, both of Niles; grandchildren, Christopher (& Pepper) Inman, Jenny (& Dan) Aykroyd, Timothy Wurz, and Anna Wurz; great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Searra, Gabriella, Hunter, Tanner, Lucas, Alex, Benjamin, and Brendan; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Haskel T. Inman will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles, and will begin with the Masonic Rites by Saint Joseph Valley Lodge #4, followed by the Rev. Fran Lane-Lawrence of First Presbyterian Church. Committal will follow at Mission Hills, and will conclude with the Veteran’s Flag Presentation and “Taps” by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.
