Glenda Heighway

Glenda Mae Heighway, age 82 years of Niles, Michigan died at 5:08 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, Michigan following an extended illness.

She was born on May 30, 1934 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to J. B. and Geneva (Perry) Manasco. She was graduated from Berrien Springs (Michigan) High School, and has lived in the area most of her life. She was employed for forty-four years at the former Niles plant of Simplicity Pattern Company where she was a member of the Teamsters Union.

In Berrien Springs, Glenda was a member of the First Baptist Church, and in Niles had been a member of the Community Evangelical Free Church. In past years, she had been active in area bowling leagues – often at the former White’s Bowling Lanes, or the former Timber Lanes. More recently she enjoyed many styles of word-find puzzles, and was quite proficient at completing them.

On June 12, 1953 in Berrien Springs she married Robert L. Heighway with whom she celebrated the thirty-second anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on May 9, 1986. She was also preceded in death by their son, Brian J. Heighway on July 31, 2002; and by Glenda’s brother, Joe Manasco.

Surviving family includes her daughter, Roberta L. Heighway of Niles; grandchildren, Christopher (& Bridget) Heighway, Isiah (& Jamie) Heighway, Jason Heighway, and Steven Heighway; and great-grandchildren Brody, Caleb, Trinity, Kadence, Julianna, Vadalie, Maylee, and Maddy.

Services for Glenda Heighway will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with Pastor Jim Wing of Niles officiating.
