Biography

Geraldine “Lyn” Chomiw, age 69 of Watervliet, Michigan died with her family at her side at 9:06 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Saint Joseph, Michigan following an illness.

She was born on November 25, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois to John James and Frances Alvina (Simanek) Wilkins. She completed her education in the Covina, California schools, lived in Connecticut for many years, and has lived in Watervliet since 2004.

Lyn was a Catholic all of her life, and was an active volunteer in her parish in Connecticut. She enjoyed handcrafts, especially knitting and ceramics, but her greatest joy was caring for her family.

On November 1, 1980 in Homosassa Springs, Florida she married Joseph Chomiw with whom she celebrated last year the thirty-third anniversary of their wedding.

Surviving family includes her husband, Joe Chomiw and their daughter, Catherine “Catiebeth” (& Brian) Loewe of Watervliet; and Lyn’s siblings, Jan Mefford, Judy Brant, Terry Cottier, Jim Daniel, John Wilkins, Shirley Duis, Jeff Daniel, Michele Megna, Linda Dalton, and Mike Freel; and many nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Lyn Chomiw will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Saint John Catholic Church 600 Columbus Avenue, Benton Harbor by The Very Rev. William Jacobs, Jr., V.F. of the Saints John and Bernard Parish. Committal Rites will be later at the Assumption Cemetery in Cortlandt Manor, New York.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday at the church, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Contributions in memory of Lyn Chomiw may be made to the Knights of Columbus.
