Everett Lee Young, age 92 years of Niles, Michigan died at 9:15 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Riveridge Manor in Niles following an extended illness.

He was born on April 19, 1924 in Niles to Arthur Claire and Gladys Marie (Coons) Young and lived in Niles all of his life including many years on the farm on West Bertrand Road. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters union local #364 in South Bend, Indiana and drove trucks for over thirty-two years. He was first employed at the former Clemans Trucking for over twenty-two years, and then retired after ten years at the former Tucker Freight Lines. He also farmed all of his life.

Everett was formerly a member of the Sumnerville Bible Baptist Church, had attended the Church of the Nazarene in Buchanan, and more recently was a member of Coulter’s Chapel Church of God in Niles. He had also participated in the DeColores Ministries of Southwest Michigan. He was well-known for his great appreciation of all things about John Deere equipment, having owned and operated several John Deere tractors and other equipment. He was nearly equally impressed with Ford cars and trucks, and was always ready to drive something – even wishing that he could go back to the big “semis”.

In retirement he enjoyed traveling including three trips to Alaska, several cruises, and winters in Florida.

On August 20, 1949 at the Bertrand Bible Church in Niles he married the former Doris Carolyn Pelkey with whom he celebrated the forty-eighth anniversary of their wedding prior to her death on December 19, 1997. They were also preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Lynn Young on March 5, 1995; and by Everett’s siblings, Catherine Frank, Helen Rupe, Robert Young, Mae Marie Dalbey, Ruth Dyer, Esther Moore, and Kenneth Young.

On June 10, 2000 at the Church of the Nazarene in Buchanan he married the former Wilma M. (Whitright) Poledna Heyn with whom he celebrated this year the sixteenth anniversary of their marriage.

Surviving family includes his wife, Wilma Young and his children, Carol (& David) Matthews and Rick (& Tracy) Young, both of Niles; grandchildren Christie (& Scott) Purucker, Joshua (& Erin) Matthews, Tim Matthews, and Ashlynn Young; great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Leah, and Logan; Wilma’s children, Robert (& Dorothy) Poledna and Tina Burns, both of Niles; grandchildren Lane Poledna, and twins Sophia Burns, and Nicholas Burns; and great-granddaughter Taya; and Everett’s sisters, Lois (& Robert) Root of Niles, Marjorie DePyl of Buchanan, and brother, Carl (& Nina) Young of East Jordan, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Everett Young will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home in Niles with Pastor David F. Frazer of Coulter’s Chapel Church of God officiating. Committal will follow at Mission Hills.

The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Everett may be made to Coulter’s Chapel Church of God.
