Evelyn Louise Bailey, age 84 years of Niles, Michigan died on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at her home following an extended illness. She was born September 29, 1930 in Niles to John Earl and Margaret Ruby (Schrumpf) Horner.

Evelyn was a 1948 graduate of Niles High School and is a member of Saint John’s United Church of Christ in Niles. She participated in many area bowling leagues and enjoyed camping and traveling. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On February 18, 1950 at Saint John’s United Church of Christ in Niles, Evelyn married Charles E. “Chuck” Bailey, who preceded her in death on August 10, 2003.

Surviving family includes her children, Michael (Faith) Bailey of Union, Missouri, Pamela (Craig) Van Tuyl, Kelly (Daniel) Sabat, all of Niles; 8 grandchildren, Ryan (Laura) Bailey, Brooke Bailey, Heather Van Tuyl, Brandon Van Tuyl, Megan (Steve Hoskin) Bennett, Andy (Stefanie) Bennett, Kayleigh Sabat and Andrea Sabat, 8 great-grandchildren and a son-in-law, Paul Bennett of Niles. Evelyn is also survived by a brother, John Horner of Niles; many nieces and nephews and special friends, Carol (Jack) Teeter and Mary Lou Hessey.

Evelyn was also preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl A. Bennett and two sisters, Dorothy Hinegardner and Betty Joan Kuhn.

Funeral services for Evelyn Louise Bailey will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with Rev. Fran Lane-Lawrence of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Mission Hills, Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4-8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Tourette Syndrome Association or to the National Cancer Institute.
