Evelyn Olga Arnold, age 93 years of Niles, Michigan died at 3:40 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2016 at her home following a brief illness.

She was born on November 19, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois to Emil August and Marie Augusta (Krause) Klotz. She was graduated from the former Lucy Flower Technical High School in Chicago and moved to Niles in 1943. She followed her husband’s military career around the country, eventually settling in Norfolk, Virginia before returning to Niles in 1963. She was employed at the former Clarice’s Dress Shop, and the former Paul’s Toggery, both of Niles.

Evelyn enjoyed music, and was a member of the Niles Music Club and Past President of the Brandywine Band and Orchestra Parents Association. She was also a member of the former M-60 Neighborhood Club. She created and maintained a variety of flower gardens at her home, including a water garden that she excavated by hand when she was in her 80’s.

On June 6, 1950 in Charleston, South Carolina she married Harry F. Arnold with whom she celebrated the forty-ninth anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on July 26, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Florence Snyder.

Surviving family includes her daughters, April Vosburgh of Niles, Amy (& Jeffrey Schroeder) Arnold of Lansing, Michigan; grandchildren, Scott (& Vandy) Vosburgh, Jason Landstrom, and Katharine Landstrom; great-grandchildren Joshua Simasy and Alyssa Simasy; and three nephews, James (& Siri Sirisuth) Snyder, Alan (& Kathy) Snyder, and Timothy (& Celeste Jankowski) Snyder and several great-nieces and nephews.

The family of Evelyn Arnold will gather privately to share memories and honor her life. Contributions in memory of Evelyn may be made to the Brandywine Schools Band Boosters, or to the Fernwood Botanic Garden and Nature Preserve.
