Elizabeth N. “Liz” Konkey, age 53 years of Niles, Michigan died at 5:25 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor following an extended illness.
She was born on August 13, 1960 in Niles to David C. and V. Fern (Satterfield) Konkey. She attended Saint Mary Elementary School and Niles Community Schools. She was employed for several years at the former Sheller-Globe plant in Niles.
Liz was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles. She enjoyed crochet, and her dogs; but her greatest joy was her family and following their activities.
She is survived by her daughter, Sirenna (& Patrick Wirick) Konkey of Niles; grandchildren Raven, Hannah, and Austyn Barkmann; her parents David and Fern Konkey of Niles; and sister, Therecia (& John) Davis of South Bend, Indiana and brother Anthony John “Tony” (& Christina) Konkey of Niles and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Konkey.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Elizabeth Konkey will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles by The Rev. David Otto of the parish. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with recitation of The Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Liz had a special interest in each of her grandchildren, and to honor her care for Hannah, contributions may be made to the Great Lakes Center for Autism Treatment and Research.
