Eleanor L. Parker, age 88 years of Niles, Michigan died on Friday, March 25, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend following a brief illness.
She was born November 10, 1927 in Niles to Dennis and Faye (Carpenter) Parker. She was graduated from Niles High School, and has lived here her entire life. Following graduation she was employed by Tyler Refrigeration, until 1951 when she became the secretary at the First Presbyterian Church of Niles. In 1961 she began working at Clark Equipment as a Legal Administrator until her retirement in 1993. Eleanor was a member of NALS, the association for legal professionals, holding various offices at both state and national levels. In 1976, she was named Legal Secretary of the Year.
Eleanor was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Niles. For many years she was a volunteer at Lakeland Hospital in Niles. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and especially making greeting cards with her many friends at the Niles Greater Senior Center.
Surviving family includes her sister, Esther Porch of Niles; two nieces; Susan (& Stephen) Short of McHenry, Illinois and Linda (& Timothy) Casey of Davenport, Florida; great-nephews Brian (& Erin) Casey and Jordan Casey both of Illinois; great-niece Briana (& Kevin) Kaczmarek of Florida; great-great-niece Faye Kaczmarek and great-great-nephew Parker Casey.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law Charles Porch, Sr.; and a nephew, Charles “Chuck” Porch, Jr.
The funeral service for Eleanor L. Parker will be held at 2:00p.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Niles with Rev. Fran Lane-Lawrence of the church officiating. Interment will be at Mission Hills.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Halbritter Funeral Home on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 5-7:00p.m. Donations in memory of Eleanor may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to the Niles Greater Senior Center.
