Edwardsburg

Eleanor Marie Hassinger, age 99 of Edwardsburg, Mi died peacefully June 9, 2024, in the comfort of her family’s presence.

She was born to Walter and Ruth (Yohn) Jann on May 19, 1925, in Logansport, Indiana. Eleanor moved to Niles, Michigan in 1949, several years after her high school graduation.  She was employed at Simplicity Pattern Company where she met her future husband. On September 8, 1951, she married William L. Hassinger at the First Presbyterian Church in Niles after which they were able to share 72 years of marriage.

Eleanor was a homemaker most of her life, being a stay-at-home mother to her four children. After her family was raised she developed a passion for travel and visited many countries around the world making wonderful memories and a host of new friends. She also became a world class garage saler with good friend, Kathy Sallak, while roaming the countryside for deals for their grandchildren.

Eleanor loved her grandchildren. One of the things she liked to do with them when they were small was to make memories by baking cookies. She especially enjoyed shopping for them at Christmas time and making their holidays special.

Eleanor will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her husband William Hassinger of Edwardsburg, MI, two daughters, Teri Hassinger of Edwardsburg, Jann (Rick) Eichler of Edwardsburg, two sons, Val (Marcia) Hassinger of Niles, and Neil (Kathleen) Hassinger of Edwardsburg. Four grandchildren, Amber (Alan) Boshoven of Freeport, MI, Tiffany Eichler of Edwardsburg, Erika (Matt) Frizzell of South Bend, Indiana, and Aaron (Kathleen) Hassinger of Edwardsburg. Brother John (Lucy) Jann of Niles, 6 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law Walter (Betty) Jann and infant twin granddaughters.

Family and friends will gather Thursday, June 13 from 5 PM to 8 PM at Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home and again at 9 AM on Friday, June 14, 2024, one hour prior to her service 10 AM. She will be laid to rest at Mission Hills Memorial Garden following the service.
